was driving, car shut down.check engine light repeatedly flashing. started car back up, rattled so turned it off. no oil showing on the stick.1999 buick regal

was driving, car turned off, smelled. engine light flashing. started car back up, rattled so i turned back off. what could this be? also oil was empty, dont know where it went....
