I just bought a jd 208 with a kohler 8hp k181. There is no compression. The starter just spins the flywheel. I would think something is broken inside. What is the best way to trouble shoot this to find out...

Hi guys. New to this forum.
i have a 1963 wheel horse 753 with a kohler k181. I noticed some blue smoke coming from the muffler and even oil actually dripping out of the muffler.
i took the head off and noticed...

I went to put the pulley from my blown up 1973 kohler out of my wheelhorse on to a replacement early 70's kohler i got out of a john deere but the crank is bigger on the deere motor..
it's not...

Why ,on my k181 kohler engine, is the spark plug not above the piston... But in between the piston and the valves..Seems like a bad location to me.._________________1973 wheel horse pulling tractor, k181s kohler 8 hp, 4 speed

This engine has the delco starter/generator, and the condenser/coil setup. It turns over just fine, but has no spark. Is there a way to test the ignition system with a meter or something? i'm hoping not to have to replace...
