flushmate 501-b

2 piece toilet our flushmate 501-b does not flush all the time. i beleive that we have had this for at least 10 years. i took apart the muffler cap,which had a small spring inside. i went to place it all back together and when the water is turned back on , the pressure blows the muffler off. i need help in keeping the muffler on tight to overcome the pressure in the tank
