Track point & touch pad not working

I have done everything I know but I cant get the mouse pad to work. It doesn't show in the device manager. An external USB mouse works fine and shows up in device manager. I have downloaded all new drivers and still nothing. I went so far as to remove the keyboard and disconnect the internal mouse and try to get the computer to find new hardware with no luck. Any suggestions?? Larry
